Different career pathways in tech

Hello!
Ive never written a post before so please excuse me and move my thread if I have placed it in the wrong place,

I am considering a role in tech and have two options:

data science- to progress onto ai machine learning
software engineering/ analytics (generalised software support hopefully transitioning into an SRE)

I essentially wanted to ask if anyone knew anything about either career and whether they could provide some insight onto the day to day but also progression and ability to change between both (data scientist and SRE)

I do know down the line I will be able to change careers or shift if I dont like it, but I like giving things a year at least and want to make an educated decision:

Degrees: data science or digital and technology solutions

Thankyou so much if you do reply giving any insight, I do not know anyone who even works a"normal" job let alone in the tech field and honestly am not finding much luck in reddit forums or YouTube :smile:
