The Student Room Group

So unfair ! PGDE

My friend passed his tutor visit (PGDE)
And all other stuff, but because of his 2nd mentor in primary school’s decision.. then he needs to do the third placement!

Ps. His mentor is basically using her power to mistreat him.

Anyone who is thinking to go to the course, think twice.

University- not that helpful on this type of thing. (Support students? 😏)
Mentor- it really depends on what mentor you will have. Some are just ……..

Thank you for your reply and the kind words!
But my friend didn’t want me to make it dramatic lol so I won’t say which university but as far as I know, a lot of students are under this kind of situation.

What’s more weird…. I just know that if you fail the first placement but make it in the second one, you will pass and you can keep moving to your probation year!

But if you fail the second placement , no matter how hard you’ve tried in your first one and pass all of the essays, you still **** up everything and need to do the third placement… ( unpaid and full time work)

all hell breaks loose…

So that’s why I wanna post it here and tell people the reality and think twice because it’s what you are going to face.

Oh man, that really does sound frustrating for your friend especially if it feels like it came down to the decision of one person rather than their overall performance.

At the same time, I find it a bit hard to take away anything concrete from this or to really understand how others could prepare themselves better, since a lot of important details are missing.
For example, it’s not really clear what exactly went wrong in the second placement or what the university could have done differently. PGDE experiences can vary a lot depending on the school and the mentor, so some more context might actually help others get a better idea of what to watch out for.

Sorry I couldn’t provide more info here because that’s my friends’ experience.

I was just so angry how he was mistreated so I need a place to let it out my emotions 😂

And new update, university told the students who need to do the third placement that because there are not enough schools in the city so the students have to go to the village. They announced this just today (Aug 29th) and the placement will be started on Monday( Sep 1st)

They have to travel by bus and train…😭
