UK National in the EU applying for Full Support

Hi,

I am a dual Irish / British citizen born in Galway, Ireland (not Northern Ireland).

I have lived in Galway, Ireland all my life until March 2024. I was ordinarily resident in Belfast seeking employment and received a National Insurance Number, this was until mid-January 2025. Since then I have moved back to Ireland to care for my grandmother and will remain here until August when I move to London.

I have applied for a PGCE at UCL, where I will remain living and teaching Computing in London long-term for at least 2 years of ECT teaching but planning to remain permanently. I am a British Citizen and received my UK passport due to my mother being born in Derbyshire, through descent.

Reading about 'UK nationals in the EU' here it states:

For courses starting between 1 August 2021 and 1 January 2028, UK nationals and their family members living in the EEA or Switzerland will generally be eligible for home fee status and tuition fee and maintenance loans if they meet the following conditions:

they have lived in the EEA, Switzerland, or the UK for at least the last three years;

they were living in the EEA or Switzerland on 31 December 2020;

they have lived continuously in the EEA, Switzerland, or the UK between 31 December 2020 and the start of their course.

Should I be eligible for 'home fee status and tuition fee and maintenance loans'?

Hi there, where a UK National has indicated they were born outside the UK and has stated in the residency section of the application that during the three year period prior to the first academic year of the course they have been residing in the EU/EEA, we will require a breakdown of the residency details from birth. We need this evidence to establish whether you have been ordinarily resident in the UK at some point since birth.This will require further investigation by the assessment team to validate this, and only then would be able to confirm your eligibility for home student support. At worst, you may still be eligible for EU support, but as you have advised that you previously have lived in Belfast, this would allow for the home student review. Thanks, Stephen.
