will my gcses affect the university i want to apply to?

im doing my gcses right now and i just have a weight on my shoulders. obviously, like most people, i want to apply to oxbridge/imperial. i feel like my gcses will hold me back. i feel like its the end of the world.
what i think i got:
9999999876
obviously ur going to say ive got so many 9s and that i shouldnt be complaining, but contextually, my school is rlly academic and i feel like my dreams are lowk just slipping through my fingers. sorry im so dramatic but i think that 6 in history might kill me

Having a 6 in history would only affect you if you’re applying to history or related subjects like politics. If you’re applying to STEM subjects, a 7 or 6 in essay subjects wouldn’t make a difference at all. Even if you’re applying to Oxbridge, your grades clearly show that contextualisation wouldn’t put you at any disadvantage. Could you share which course you’re thinking of and what subjects you’re doing?

Literally no one will give a ****, GCSEs feel like the be all and end all but like a month after results day you’ll wonder what all the fuss was about. You can expect your GCSEs to literally never come up again in your life.

No they won't affect your university. (It might if you want to do a history degree at oxbridge but idk) These are AMAZING grades, you will realise in the future that it really doesnt matter. You seem like you are putting too much pressure on yourself, pls look after yourself so you dont burn out!! Very few people get grades as high as this and still achieve their dream (i know it seems otherwise since you said your school is very academic, and most students on this website seem like overly high achievers)

Many Uni courses will have 'entry requirements' that include essential GCSE grades - typically Maths and/or English - and if you dont meet these grades, its the quickest way to get an immediate rejection.

Competitive Unis / degree subjects will also 'score' your overall GCSE profile (typically your top 5 or top 8 grades) as part of their assessment of your application. Whilst this usually forms a small % compared to your A level grades and Personal Statement etc, it can be used to separate those with an otherwise identical score to determine who gets an offer - especially at Unis who get thousands of applications for their most competitive subjects. Just remember that there are other perfectly good Universities, and their graduates still have very successful and happy lives.

What sort of degree subject are you likely to apply for - any ideas?
And what are your GCSE Maths and Eng Lang grades?
