Stressed and depressed rant

I'm honestly so sick of exams. I'm motivated to study and do well but I'm just so tired and exhausted. It's been over a month of studying and exams - how can they expect us to survive this long?? And I know I've made big and many mistakes on my papers which are just that - mistakes. Genuinely don't know how exams can truly be the best way to assess someone. I hate that my uni or an individual is going to judge me off of a single grade based off of three individual papers. They don't see how much I've worked and revised to get where I am they only see the final grade. I'm also saying this as an A grade hopeful (though somehow everyone both needs and is working towards As for uni - how can this be the case??) Especially as it doesn't matter how much I work - if other people are working harder or are just smarter - I feel like I deserve good grades - but it doesn't work that way. Anyway I've just been so tired, bored and nervous it's all going to be a waste.

Try to take the emotion out of the revision process. Also change your mindset. it's tough undoubtedly. I've been through it too. Periods of burnout and boredom from studying caused me to slack, not revise , forget and then overthink and give up. Times going to pass irrespective of how you feel in the present so keep it up! You'll feel relieved in summer knowing you did everything you could.

That being said, take care of your mental health too. I know I said take the emotion out of studying but take care of your mental health. It's important you don't let this affect you and your performance during exam season. Talk to your form tutor, family, trusted friend or teacher.

Now some tips. Given its clear you have burnt out - which is completely natural and normal - you might want to switch up how you are studying.

try doing study calls with friends. maybe at the end of these calls you can set a reward like playing a multiplayer game. that gives you something to look forward to

You could try studying in a public area like a cafe and library. Again you could go with friends. As a reward for studying you guys can eat out at a restaurant

Buy a whiteboard. I got a pretty large one and used it to do quick fire maths questions from DFM and Isaac Physics. You could make it a competition on a call to do these questions and then take turns to explain your working and logic

These are a few examples of things you could do. You could always ask ChatGPT for more. Best of luck with exams. They're tough and you may feel beaten but they aren't over just yet. In fact they've only just started. You CAN make a difference!

If you do maths, physics or geography I have some resources I can share. Just reply or send a PM!

I think you need to speak to your GP.

You could also go to your local hospital walk in centre and describe your symptoms.
Hello there!

What you are feeling is completely valid, and you are not alone in this.
Exams can feel exhausting, and overwhelming, especially when you've poured so much of yourself into studying for weeks on end.
You care deeply about doing well, and that’s part of why this feels so heavy.

Exams don’t reflect your perseverance, the nights you stayed up revising or the progress you have made along the way.
Remember, that you are doing enough. Your effort matters. Your well-being matters. And a grade will never define the entirety of who you are or what you're capable of.

Exhaustion doesn't mean you have failed, it means you’ve been fighting hard for something that matters to you. Let yourself rest when you need to. Let yourself feel frustrated.

But also remind yourself, this won’t last forever. Exams end. Stress fades. And life opens back up beyond this moment.
You don’t need to prove your value to anyone.
Don’t give up, You deserve the chance to see what happens when you keep going anyway.

You’ve got this. One step at a time.
You are not alone!

I hope this helps!

Kind regards,
Reka - Coventry University Student Ambassador
