urgent advice for gcses and a levels

gcses: i counted up my scores on biology (aqa triple higher), chemistry (aqa triple higher) and maths (edexcel higher) on a tiktok mark scheme.

on paper 1s, i got: in bio ~36/100, chemistry ~35/100, maths ~29/80. maths paper 2 i got ~35/80.

i want to do maths chem and bio for a level and then dentistry at a good london uni. i’m really scared because i don’t think i’ll get good enough grades. my school sixth form requires an average of a grade 5 to get in and 6s in chosen subjects and 7 in maths. i really don’t know what to do. please could someone help. will i be able to do dentistry with such bad grades? how much will i need in paper 2s/3?

2025 entry requirements for each UK Dentistry School - UK dental school entry requirements - Dental Schools Council

Usually, Unis will only specify GCSE Maths and English grades for Dentistry - and you must meet these requirements, there is no flexibility. They may also 'score' your overall GCSE profile as part of their application assessment but this is usually quite a small % and your A level predictions, Personal Statement and UKCAT etc will always be more important.

You don't even know your results yet.

Its normal to think you have done badly, and going into endless doom-thinking, but you have probably done far better than you assume. Try not to worry.

You will probably end up getting higher grades than what you think.
In my case, I remember finishing my first exam thinking I'll probably scrape 7 overall. I ended up getting a higher grade. Right now just focus on what you CAN DO not what you have done in the past, just focus on revising for your next exams and do well in it.

Wouldn't trust a tiktok mark scheme personally, but if these are your results you should probably consider different paths. Universities might say they don't directly care about your GCSEs, but 40% just isn't a good enough foundation to start an A-Level. Wait until results day to be sure, but until then you might want to come up with a plan for if your results are bad, like an alternative to your current sixth form.

You should Check 2024 GCSE Grade Boundaries and predict the range of marks you would need for 7 in Maths and 6's in the subjects you have chosen, and i suggest you to just try your best at this moment of time. Go through summary videos and do past papers. Honestly, all i did for GCSE was just revision and rarely left any time for Questions which is probably the most necessary thing to do and I kind of regretted it at the time. Regardless of what happened I moved on and chose different subjects depending on what grades i got. You should realise that almost everyone changes on what they want to do in the future, I kept choosing between one field to another. Hopefully you do well but if you think you haven't done well and you cannot study the subjects you wanted to do, dont dwell on it. Life changes as time goes on and hopefully you pursue a different field that is also to your liking. If there is a possibility of actually convincing your school to let you do the subjects you wanted to do, then go for it because there was a student in my school who got a 6 and wanted to do maths, so he convinced the head of maths and actually was allowed to study it, so dont give up just because you got lower than the requirement. I wish you the very best man for your remaining exams.
