Does this imply I will still meet my uni offer?

Hi I want to study history at Uni of York in September, my offer is ABB with an A in history, it got dropped a grade due to my EPQ. I received an email from the uni a few weeks ago about flexibility in my offer and they said they have the right to adjust my offer on results day. Does this mean if I don't meet the requirements I may still get my place so I don't have to do clearing? I think I am going to get a C in my English Language sadly.

Hey there,

I can't say for certain but it's very possible that that is what they meant!

I think whether they would still offer you the place will be dependent on how many other applicants meet their offers as usually, universities will tend to give more people offers than the course capacity.

This is because they know a lot of people will put them as insurance and go to their firm, some may not firm or insure that uni at all, and others will firm and then miss their offer.

It would completely depend on how many people get the grades to meet their offer for the specific course - the admissions team would usually then re-assess and decide whether or not to take those who only missed out by a small amount.

This would all be done between the time the universities receive everyone's grades and then results day, but they would not be able to tell you anything until results day.

Hopefully that makes sense?

Hi sapphireA,

We always try to be as flexible as we can but unfortunately we are unable to confirm what grades we can consider prior to A Level results day.

Most UK results will not be published until mid-August and it is at this time when a final decision will be made on your results.

At this time we will know how many students have met the conditions of their offer and how many places are available. If we are able to make any further reductions to any conditions we will make adjustments automatically once we receive your results.

We hope this helps! Let us know if you have any other questions 🙂
