Shoild I take a gap year

At the start of alevels my parents forced me to take maths but I didn’t want to , I did anyway to please them , I never hated maths just except I found it much more harder than my other 2 alevels in literature and history. Plus I never needed maths as I was set on pursuing law, but anyway it’s exam time and I applied back in October but I wanna change my course to English, so I said if I get A*AA minimum in my alevels I’ll take a gap year and reapply , however after paper 1 maths exam, that A is looking kinda impossible, but I still have hope for p2 and 3. However I’m now looking at the chances of actually having to go to uni this year, but today, I got accepted into the Apply: Cambridge programme for English which is a major opportunity, and now I’m thinking , If I don’t get A in maths, I could still keep my ideas of a gap year and retake maths, hoping to pass, and apply for English and stay in the apply Cambridge scheme, I want opinions on this

Parents shouldn't really force their children to take A levels that are not the choice of the person involved. The reason for this is that it isn't the parent who has to do the course for the exam. This also applies to your university course. Study what you want to study where you want to study. It is you and only you who has to do the course.

I would suggest that you don't let your parents decide your job for you. Again they aren't the ones having to do it.

Im in the exact same position as you - my parents forced me to take a level maths, I applied for psychology courses at uni but I’m feeling more drawn to English now. I got into a one year course at a drama school which I am definitely going to do I will have to reapply next year for uni anyways- however my maths paper 1 and 2 did not go well and I’m not sure about which universities will accept me.
Also next year the personal statement section has changed to questions so we will have to change our application.
I think you should wait and see what you get on results day, if you want to change your course you don’t have to take a gap year- you can always apply through clearing (to a different course than you initially chose). I’m not sure if the Cambridge program you’re referring to is for an academic year or a summer program, but I think if you really want to do it, then it’s an opportunity you shouldn’t miss out on! I had the same dilemma with drama school and ended up deciding to go because I won’t have this opportunity again.
Anyways how did maths paper 2 go?
And English paper 3 (if you do edexcel)
