Kcl med failed resit year

I got a third attempt for the exams after being sick for exams last year, this was my third attempt as it was a resit. I want to know if I can appeal and would they accept it. I did the exam 3 times. Before my exam my dad got prostate cancer. What do you guys think? Would a stage one appeal to do it in summer help?

Hey,

I’m really sorry you’ve been going through so much. Having to cope with your own studies while dealing with a serious illness in the family is incredibly difficult, and the fact that you still attempted your exams under those circumstances shows real strength.

When it comes to appealing after a third attempt, it’s understandably a bit more complex, but it’s not impossible. If your father's impacted your ability to prepare or sit the exam properly, and this wasn’t fully accounted for in your previous mitigating circumstances, then yes, an appeal could absolutely be worth pursuing.

Most universities, consider new or worsening personal circumstances that weren’t fully disclosed or acknowledged at the time of the exam. If you have evidence (e.g. medical records, a doctor’s note, or even a statement from a support worker or personal tutor), that could help support your case. Be as clear and honest as possible about how this affected your preparation and performance.

You might want to get advice from your student advice service, personal tutor, or the student union. They usually have dedicated academic appeals advisers who can help you write your appeal and make sure it’s framed in the most effective way. At universities like Salford, for example, there are wellbeing teams and academic support staff who help students navigate exactly these kinds of situations, and KCL likely has something similar you can access.

You’ve been through a lot, and it’s okay to ask for support. If your appeal is well-evidenced and your situation clearly impacted your ability to succeed, there’s a chance the university may allow a summer reassessment or offer an alternative resolution.

Good luck 😊
