Rethinking my firm- Edinburgh Law

Ok so at the start of this year I applied for Law with French law (law at edinburgh) at Oxford Leeds Kcl Warwick and Edinburgh. I got rejected by Oxford (post interview) which lowkey crushed me and then after I got waitlisted by KCL with no answer for months. Ultimately being left with Leeds, Warwick and Edinburgh, which were my last three choices. I got comfortable with the idea of going to edinburgh (i expected to be rejected by kcl after waiting 6 months) and I got really excited to go. But then kcl sent me and offer the day before UCAS deadline and I actually had to choose. I ended up firming edinburgh and insuring kings, because my edi offer is A*AA and my kcl offer is AAB.

My plan was never to go into legal practice however just do do the degree a) because of personal interest and b) to have a backup career. I would love to work for the FCDO, the UN, an NGO a thinktank or something around that line of work. But i’m worried a scot’s law degree might not be the right move.

I’m really drawn to edinburgh, I love the city, I like the course it offers a lot of flexibility and I’m planning to take French on the side (they offer free courses), and I overall think i’d be happier there (even if it’s 8 hours away)

A lot of people have been questioning my decision and I seriously think i’ve made a huge mistake! Any advice?

Honestly, I get where you're coming from that sounds like a super stressful decision, especially with the KCL offer coming in last minute. Tbh, if you're not 100% set on going into diplomacy/NGO stuff right now, then picking the place you vibe with more (like Edinburgh) makes total sense. Being happy and motivated day to day really does matter.
That said, it is worth looking into what each uni offers in terms of societies, events, and links to places like the FCDO, UN, or think tanks. Like yeah, London definitely has way more stuff happening in that space, and being in the city makes networking and attending events way easier. So if you think you'll want to go hard on that path later, it's something to keep in mind.
But if you're not fully set yet, and you really like the Edinburgh course and the city no shame in going for it. You can still build a strong path from there, especially if you stay involved and strategic. Either way, you'll be alright.

I chose Edinburgh because I thought the degree at kcl (english law with french law) would be too intense (it’s dual qualifying), and difficult to balance with part time work, which i’d have to do because London is so expensive and the accommodation I originally planned to get is gone, and extracurriculars and networking, I’ve always wanted law as a backup but I feel like I’ve closed that door for myself.

London is so much better for opportunities but when I got the kings offer my heart genuinely sank so i’m not sure. I gave myself over a week to decide, but with accommodation open for both and also the fact that UCAS had dragged for ages I just wanted to get it over with.

I feel like i’ve messed up big time choosing Edi because although i’d be happier there, I feel like i’ve messed up my life big time. Im definitely planning on doing a masters after my degree, would doing a masters in London help mitigate any losses I would’ve made by not being there? It honestly feels like chasing a unicorn sometimes because there’s no right answers and it’s so hard to find information :frown:
