Fashion Marketing UAL LCF

Hey, I'm in year 12 and I want to get into this course, however it's highly competitive and I have no extra curriculars, is there anything relevant to this course or something outstanding you put on your UCAS that I can achieve. (side note- my grades are all around Bs and As for A level Psych, Business and Art).

Hey! I was in your position last year, I applied for fashion marketing and also 2 fashion design courses. I did Textiles, Maths and Physics and ended up getting an alternative offer to study BSc fashion management as I didn't do any essay subjects. I'm now doing a design course next year.

Since you do Psychology and Business I'm sure you'll be fine subject wise, but at LCF they definitely like seeing you take creative liberty in projects and show your passion. If your school offers it definitely do EPQ and make it related to fashion marketing or design. Also if you live in London sign up for UAL Insights (free pre degree program) as they like to see that you've learnt a bit about the uni. If not, any kind of creative club would also make them happy!! best of luck xx

Hello,
It's great to hear that you would like to study with us at UAL LCF. I am a student rep and have recently finished my course studying fashion journalism and content creation. I was in the same position as you in yr12 before applying to uni with no extra curricular subjects or courses that directly related to the course. I will share with you what I did which helped me to get entry to LCF.

1) UAL Insights
UAL offer a range of outreach programmes to widen accessibility to the creative arts and Insights is one of them. It is a free course aimed at students in yr12 and yr13 to spend three short terms defining what course they would like to study and build a relevant portfolio. It begins with a Spring school which has just passed, but you can apply for the Summer school coming up. You will spend a week working on project that you can add to your portfolio while working on campus and meeting tutors and current students. Even if your course doesn't require a portfolio, you can mention all you learnt on your personal statement. In the autumn term of yr13, you will spend time working with tutors working on your application, check the eligibility for this course and definitely sign up.

2) Personal statement
This is the first impression the university will have of you so make sure to write an authentic account of why you want to study this specific course and why you choose this specific university. Make it personal to your own experiences ranging with a mix of academic and passion projects. You may not have any official extra curricular, but you might have some informal experience like a social media page, blog or website where you develop your skills - make sure to mention that. Regarding your academic subjects, focus on the transferrable skills that you can take from A Levels and apply to a university degree. That can be analytical, written or contextual skills etc. Connect it to your chosen to course to prove your knowledge and compatibility with the degree.

I hope this helps and I wish you the best with your application.

Hiya @kfkaddhfj ,

Like what the others have mentioned, the initial impression comes from your personal statement 😗 this is your chance to showcase your motivation, depth of knowledge or aspirations for the field of fashion marketing. It would great to mention any personal projects you have worked on or any relevant work experience (eg. assisting work like styling or personal shoots) 🤗

Hey, thank you so much for the advice, have written up a draft for my personal statement however I am clearly lacking in terms of work experience with only a part time job and volunteering. I'd love to get involved in a personal project like the examples you mentioned but I'm not sure how I could access assistant work with me being 17. Any ideas?

Hi again from UAL!

There's some really great advice here!

I'd also like to add that we have lots of advice over on our YouTube channel, I'm linking a specific UAL application advice playlist which I think will be really useful:
