Loughborough Accomodation

I'm applying for my accommodation for 2025 intake tomorrow and am torn what to put as my 1st option. I'm looking at Faraday and Telford.

FARADAY:
-Catered (15 meals a week)
-Ensuite available
-Potential problem with kitchen space?
-Heard reports of mould???

TELFORD:
-Non-Catered
-Available little flats
-Well heated reportedly
-Popular with art and design students (very attractive to me as a design engineering student!)
-Potential problem with kitchen space

If anyone could offer any support in my decision I would really appreciate it!

Hi! I think tomorrow is just applications for booking slots for accom and then we book after/on results day depending on the slot we were given! I don't know too much about either of those accoms but I know someone who was in Telford last year and she liked it there, but to be fair all the accommodations seem to be really nice!!

Hi,

This is posted after the date in question but it might still be useful for you.

Faraday and Telford are right next to each other on campus, so the location factor isn't a huge thing to consider. Whichever hall you go into, you will be able to find people on your course or similar courses.

Between Faraday and Telford, catering is the biggest difference. I don't live in either of those halls, but I do live in a self-catered hall (William Morris). For me, the biggest consideration was the cost and flexibility of catered halls. If you are in a catered hall, you have access to all of the dining halls across campus for you allocated meals - but you still need to follow the meal time structure.

Being self-catered offers more flexibility with food choice, as well as eating out in town or on the go. yes, you will spend time cooking but if you are smart about it and meal prep or plan your week properly, you will find much more freedom in being self-catered.

If you go into Telford, you are likely to have parts of your maintenance loan remaining after paying your hall fees, which can contribute to general expenses like food shops.

It's also important to note that Faraday only have 15 meals per week catered, meaning that you will find yourself preparing food at times anyway.

Obviously it is your decision, and what worked out for me might not be what is best for you.
This was just some of the reasoning behind why I chose self-catered over catered halls.

I believe there is a University open day on Fri 27th and Sat 28th of June - so it may be worthwhile coming to visit and get a sense of what each are like before you make your decision.

If you can't visit, check out @lborocampus or the hall instagram account that you're interested in and drop them a dm.

Hope it all goes well!

As above, they're basically right next to each other. Some of the Telford rooms are refurbished, so that may sway your decision one way or another, but all Telford rooms are nice.

Faraday looks old on the outside but is decent on the inside.

Again, catered vs non catered is really the big difference.

I can speak about Telford in more detail if you wish, but yes it is well heated.
