Is it worth buying a dissertation planner. I'm a second year preparing for starting dssertation in Oct.
TIA

Hi there,

Yes, I’d say a dissertation planner is definitely worth getting (I’ve done two dissertations myself). Since it’s such an independent project, you won’t have supervisors chasing you for drafts or setting strict deadlines it’s really up to you to manage your time. A planner can help break the work into manageable stages, set your own goals, and keep you on track without the last-minute stress.

Hope that helps! 😊

Thank you so much is there any that you could recommend? Searching them up is overwhelming process and some are expensive

Hi @daniellebickram2, I think it depends on what type of planner you're wanting. I thought my final year was going to be 'go go go' all the time when actually, my dissertation came in stages and it was easy for me to manage my workloads online, for instance using my Outlook calendar, reminders, and project management software like Miro to organise my workload. I got tired of lugging around an extra book when I could just use my laptop.

Ultimately, if you're someone who uses a pen and paper and is quite disciplined in writing everything down- go for it. I used a Papier academic journal because the start and end dates were really helpful.

Best of luck in your final year!

Hi,

I personally use Google Calendar (free with my account), but if you prefer something more visual, I’d recommend Miro or Padlet both are free and great for mapping things out. OneNote is another good option, free through your university account, and you can organise different folders for each chapter or task.

If you like writing things down and find it helps you remember better, The Works has a good range of affordable planners, or Amazon.

Hope that helps and best of luck with your dissertation! 🙂
