Law university advice please!

I got 877666664 as GCSEs, 8 in Eng Lang, 6 in maths, 4 in Eng Lit (I'm excellent at this otherwise. was predicted an 8, but only completed half of both papers because i panicked about the time and lagged out). I am doing economics, eng lit and art at a-level, and have targets of ABB and have not yet been set predicteds. I am sure I can get an A in English Lit and an A or A* for Art, and I think with a bit more dedication and some more hard work, I could achieve an A in economics. I'm also doing my EPQ on the legal influences on war visibility. I think I would do decently in the LNAT if I practice timing for it well enough. What unis would I have a chance at? I've only decided on law VERY recently (genuinely in the past two weeks after a long degree crisis). I really REALLY would want to go to Durham, Nottingham or King's, but I think I have practically no chance now that I think about it. I'm very new to how competitive each course it so all help is very much appreciated!! Thank you!

If you're thinking about studying Law, you'll find that many universities, including Bangor University, ask for similar entry requirements, typically between 120–144 UCAS points (equivalent to BBB–AAA at A level).

Law can be a competitive field, so it’s a good idea to look beyond entry requirements and explore what each university offers in terms of student experience and opportunities.

At Bangor, for example, Law students have the opportunity to get involved in our Law Clinic, where they gain valuable, hands-on experience by providing legal advice to members of the public. A great way to apply learning in a real-world setting.

As you explore your options, take time to look at what makes each Law school unique. Whether it's practical experience, specialisations, or campus life, finding the right fit for you is what matters most.

Nottingham, one of the two out of Kings and Durham and three more toned down/safer options

Don't worry about having decided late, that's no issue at all. I was in the same boat as you in Y12, having started the year 100% sure I was going to do physics before switching to law. Don't write Durham, Nottingham or KCL off. They are all competitive, but Durham and KCL are significantly more competitive than Nottingham. KCL doesn't consider the essay for the LNAT, Durham consider both (make sure your essay is really good!) and Nottingham doesn't look at the LNAT at all. You need A*AA for Durham and KCL and AAA for Nottingham unless you're eligible for contextual offers.

This is a really helpful video for the LNAT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ENQwTVlhsI

You should definitely outline the exploration you've done around the subject in your personal statement. Mention reading, more reading, any lectures you've watched, other things (e.g. any cases you've watched from your local Crown Court's public gallery), etc. Law is competitive, but not impossibly so and in my opinion, people tend to overestimate how competitive it is. Good luck!!

No harm having somewhere like Durham as an aspirational choice, but I think you'd need to realistically be looking at some more mid-tier universities. ABB rules you out of top tier unis, but I think the more worrying aspect of it is that you're only doing two 'academic' A levels. There's nothing wrong with Art A-level per se (and it's a difficult A level), but it doesn't really have much relevance to law.

I'd recommend trying to boost your predicted grades. With the subjects you take and the grades, you're probably at a slight disadvantage; however, that's simply my opinion. No harm in applying; however, you do need to meet their entry requirement or contextual offer requirement (if you meet it). I'm pretty sure Durham and King's both ask for an A*AA and AAB for contextual. If you are a contextual student, it's preferable that you're predicted higher than an AAB.

As for LNAT, to make up for your grades, you'll need to do very well. I'm not sure if King's looks at section B, but Durham definitely does, so you'll need to write a really good essay. You'll need to aim for a 26 and above for a good chance, if I'm being honest, based on what I've heard. For King's, they are definitely stricter with your LNAT score imo. With that being said, they don't have a cut off point.

I'd recommend looking at other universities, as it's not wise to apply to all 3 top LNAT universities since competition is incredibly tough.
