Doctoral loan when course started in 2020...

Hiya. My doctoral course at my uni is a part-time PhD course and I've heard you can apply for some previous years and receive funding but at a pro-rata amount.

If my course started September 2020, and I still have 1-2 years to go, is it possible to get funding to cover this last 1-2 yrs of my course?

Hi there, if your PhD course started in September 2020, then you would need to make an application on the the 20/21 application form for to allow this to be assessed for the available entitlement. Once complete, we can confirm the exact support that can be provided. Thanks, Stephen.

Hello,

Thank you for the advice! I filled out the form and sent it in. I do have a follow-up question. Once SFE has reviewed the application, and if they deem me eligible, how is the loan disbursed if this isn’t the first year of your programme?

I ask because I understand the first disbursement is usually made once the University confirms you’re enrolled, and this is usually on the same schedule as the University’s main finance schedule for students. But as a postgraduate student, who is continually enrolled, is the first disbursement on a different schedule or in line with the usual finance schedule? Hope that makes sense, and thank you!

Hi there. Anything owed is paid as a lump sum backdated payment for any term payments that would have been missed so your first payment would be for a larger amount to cover the previous Academic Years, Thanks, David
