Hi Anonymous!
Thank you for your question! I studied Law at Exeter for my undergrad and moved over there from London so I can happily give you some insight into my experience at Exeter! I will admit that I did feel the culture shock upon moving at first but it's expected when you're moving into different terrain than you're used to, however, it is something that I got over fairly quickly. Whilst it's not too big of a city, it's also not too small either and there's quite a lot of things that you can get stuck into too.
Exeter has over 300 societies with cultural, sports, academic and hobby based interests - to name a few, Cheerleading, Horror and KPop! They host a variety of social events from club nights to arts and crafts sessions, as well as being a great way for you to make friends. You might even meet someone else from your city in that society! I've found that people here are generally really friendly and having joined societies such as the African Caribbean Society and the Rethinking Society meant that I could easily find like-minded people.
In terms of the nightlife, I'm not a massive fan of clubs anyway as I much prefer pubs and I can happily say that I really enjoy going to the pubs in Exeter! As well as that, I do remember there being a lot of house parties being thrown in my first year with people going to the club afterwards. For me, I think the people you meet and vibe with make the experience much more enjoyable!
Furthermore, there's loads of other areas in Devon and Cornwall that you can visit and the mainline train station has great travel links with places such as Plymouth, Bristol and even Manchester! I did lots of day trips, which gave me the opportunity to explore places that I wouldn't have ever expected to visit in my lifetime!
If you have any further questions, I will be happy to answer them!
