Oxford College Choice

I just finished my AS Level exams and will be applying for universities over the next few months. I would like to ask for advice regarding college choice, as Oxbridge applications are based on college. I'm planning to pursue Economics and Management (E&M) in the University of Oxford. As of right now, three colleges have come to mind in regard to my application plan: Pembroke, Keble, and Hertford. Does anyone know what those colleges are like (ex: admission chances, accomodation, atmosphere, etc.).

Thank you!

Your admission chances won’t be affected by college choice- you may get reallocated to a different college either before or after interviews to ensure this.

Can you make it to the open days at the start of July? That would be the perfect chance to look round some colleges, talk to current students, and see which one you feel drawn to.

What is it about those three colleges that has made you most interested in them at this stage?

I would choose Pembroke College, Oxford: 🙂

Pembroke College - Oxford University Alternative Prospectus

But remember, there is only a 5% chance of being accepted and made an offer. ☹️

I wonder what your GCSE subjects are with grades? How many 9s? 8s? If any 7s? 6s? 5s? 4s? 3s?

What are your AS-Level subjects? Are you studying 3 or 4 subjects?

Are you studying Maths and Economics? Further Maths is required for LSE, Cambridge and Warwick but other universities love Further Maths as well for Economics. 😉

I won't be able to make it to any of the open days. Furthermore, I'm a foreigner. But, for me personally, what drew me toward these colleges is the fact that these colleges are the ones that accept the most students for E&M, relatively speaking. They seem to offer good programmes for my course, and would be helpful in my academic aspirations. This comes via Collegesuggester and a bit of my own personal research that I've done over the months.

Given that I'm from a foreign nation, I didn't take the GCSE per se. But, if I were to convert my grades to GCSE grading system, it would be 999998888. For AS, I take Maths, Economics, History, and Physics.

Your GCSEs equivalent grades are all A*, so you will be shortlisted as long as you have AAAA in Maths, Economics, History and Physics.

I wonder, are you continuing all 4 subjects to A-Level?

will is a very dangerous word, especially for a subject as competitive as E&M.

Yes. I'll definitely be continuing all 4 to A-Level.

Your grades are good, but no one can tell you that you “will” be shortlisted - only 18% of applicants are shortlisted for that course.

A crucial factor will be the TSA, so do prepare well for that and practise the past papers that are available online.

Will do! Thank you so much for the advice!

Sorry, I forgot to add: the TSA admissions test will be a huge factor in being shortlisted. But the OP has excellent GCSE equivalents and will have all A*/A predicted as well in her A-Levels.
