Newcastle VS Birmingham

I don’t know which to visit for an open day ( what to study biomed) any suggestions? Whats the city like? The student life? Opportunities? Course options? Can you switch during/ after yr 1 to a related course?

Hi @BookWorm578

As a current BCU student, I can share some insight. Birmingham is a vibrant and diverse city with never-ending entertainment options. There are plenty of shops, places to eat, and events throughout the year, including the Bullring shopping centre. The university community is welcoming, and the Students’ Union is very inclusive, offering a wide range of societies to get involved in, from academic to cultural and just for fun.

The university campus is modern with great facilities. There are various departments to support you with careers, finances, academic development, and disability services. It’s a supportive space where you can really thrive.

If you’re interested in studying Biomedical Science, BCU’s course is accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS), which is a huge advantage. This accreditation means you’ll be eligible to register as a biomedical scientist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), which is essential if you’re planning to work in the NHS or other clinical settings. You can read more about the course here: Biomedical Science BSc (Hons) - BCU

You’re very welcome to visit and experience BCU for yourself. The next Open Day is on June 28th feel free to come along, chat with lecturers and current students, and get a real feel for the course and the campus. You can book on: https://bit.ly/4aHFLz5

I hope this helps, and best of luck with your decision!
