Should I drop Higher Maths?

Hi, I am doing 6 Highers (SQA) and have just started them. I am aiming for all As at Higher and should be fine for every subject - except maths.

I can drop maths for RMPS, however as I am aiming for top unis and law I feel like maths may be more appreciated?

Thanks

Hey!

For law, most top universities don’t specifically require Higher Maths, but they do like to see a strong overall academic profile. Maths can show logical thinking and problem-solving skills, which are useful in law, but it’s not essential like English is!

If you feel like RMPS is a subject where you can definitely get a strong grade and enjoy the content more, it could actually work in your favour. Uni's value good grades and subjects that show critical thinking, which RMPS definitely does!

So if Maths is causing a lot of stress and might risk lowering your overall results, it’s valid to consider swapping it. At the end of the day, aiming for high grades across the board is the most important thing, especially for competitive courses like law.

I dropped higher maths because it was taking up too much of my time trying to study it and figure everything out, which of course was then taking time away from studying all of my other subjects. So that was my justification to drop it, I could spend more time on my other subjects that way!

Hope this helps!

Thank you so much! Yeah I feel I could definitely get an A in RMPS and my friends (who have similar skills to me) really enjoy it. I’m going to speak to people about it tomorrow - thanks!

hiii sorry for being abit late, but i just finished my highers this year!
most law unis dont really require maths im pretty sure, but it is a good qualification to have!

i really enjoyed higher maths!! i got a C at nat5 ( was predicted to fail after getting 10% in the prelim😀), but at higher i was getting 75%+ in all the tests!
i think if you are dedicated enough and put in the effort you can easily get an A
