personal statement (nursing)

hi, i wanted to ask what do people actually include in there personal statements??

like i know people talk about books a lot but i'm planning on doing adult nursing and admitedly iv'e
never read any books non-fictional or otherwise relating to it (if anyone has any recs or knows of any relating book please
let me know!!

on that note, i know that personal statements are different for the y12s this time around but i know that talking of experience
still matters so would it be worth taking part in NHS training courses or something similar so i would be able to talk about it

Hi there,

Great to hear that you’re planning on studying Nursing at university 🙂

A good starting point is to look at the modules and topics covered on the courses you’re interested in. Try to spot any recurring themes or key terms across the different universities, then pop those into Google Scholar to find relevant books or academic journal articles (which are like shorter, more focused versions of books).

You can also talk about documentaries, podcasts, or news articles that have helped you understand more about healthcare and nursing. A really accessible news site written by academics is The Conversation the ‘Health’ section might be especially useful: https://theconversation.com/uk

If you’re thinking about gaining some experience to mention, definitely look into free online training courses. MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) on sites like Coursera, FutureLearn or The Open University can be a great option many of them are low intensity and offer certificates.

Hope that gives you some useful starting points!

Hi @keysthatarethere
Commonly in personal statements people include a range of super curricular activities which help to demonstrate you passion for the subject you want to study at university. These can include a range of activities including reading and researching a particular topic your intrested in, watching documentaries and podcasts, work experience, online MOOC's which are short online courses you can take in a topic.
Talking about experience in your subject is great in a personal statement so an NHS training course could be a great opportunity to gain some experience or volunteering in the industry could be another great way to develop your skills.
Hope this helps, and if you have any questions, feel free to ask!
