Anyone based around Chester aged 16-19 interested in joining a poetry club/society?

Hi! I’m 17 years old and I love to write and read poetry. I literally don’t have any friends who also write poetry and I’ve been really keen to meet others who do, but I couldn’t find any poetry clubs local to me for my age group, so I’m thinking of starting one?

I’m imagining monthly meet ups (maybe at Storyhouse Chester?) with possibly a monthly remote session on top, in which we read each other’s poems and discuss. We could have snacks, and a theme for each session - for example, themes could be things like ‘history’, ‘love’, ‘storytelling’, ‘nature’ etc. or we could do specific poets or poetic forms, like Christina Rossetti or sonnets whatever - and we could all write poems inspired by the theme and bring to the session to share.

You wouldn’t have to write your own poetry to join of course, you could just come to hear others read, or maybe bring a piece you like of another poet to read, but it would be great to get a group of young writers together!

We could definitely have like themed snack days too like the snacks related to the theme… or cultural snacks like Italian/Mexican/Japanese snack nights?

I reckon it’d be super fun and cute and would be a great way to improve writing skills, get feedback, and meet likeminded people!! (And a great extracurricular for the personal statement..)

I love this idea but I don’t live anywhere near Chester so if anyone is moving to London or the London area and would want to do the same thing? Or a general UK online poetry group that meets in different parts of the country would be nice :smile:
