A level results/ uni

If you don’t meet the grade requirements for your uni course is it an automatic rejection or can your uni still accept you? Eg ABB but got a grade lower
It's at the unis discretion to consider near miss applicants on results day and decide whether to accept them or not. The important thing is, unlike the situation if you did achieve your offer grades, the university is not obligated to accept you. Some unis/courses are more flexible than others for this, and it can also vary considerably year on year.

The only way to find out is to see on results day what the outcome is!

Hello there,
If you get a near miss on grades then the university may still consider your application and if they have any spaces offer you one. If you don't meet the grades and don't get offered a place then may I recommend looking at clearing places. If you are interested in this may I recommend you look at Coventry University as basically immediately after you get your A level grades you could apply and see if you meet the requirements for most of our wide range of courses. We have an open day in June where you can come and look around the campus and facilities. And you would start in September 2025 unless the course page specified otherwise.

Hi @AlishaKT,

That's a great question 😊

If you don’t meet the exact grade conditions of your offer, it’s not always an automatic rejection. Universities will often review your full application and may still choose to accept you, especially if you were only slightly below the entry requirements.

In some cases, you might be offered an alternative course, such as a Foundation programme. If you're eligible for this, the offer is usually made automatically.

If you haven’t met the conditions of your offer, you may be unsuccessful. In this case, you can use Clearing to explore alternative course options.

You can apply through clearing if:

You didn’t receive any offers.

You didn’t meet the conditions of your firm or insurance choice.

You’ve changed your mind and no longer want your original choice.

Once you’ve received your results, you can search for available courses on the UCAS Clearing search tool.

Also, feel free to check out our Official Oxford Brookes Clearing 2025 thread for lots of helpful information and guidance.

I hope that this helps. Should you have any further questions, please let us know!

Best wishes,

Clare

Like everyone else, you will just have to wait until Results Day to see, a) what you grades are and b) what decision your Unis make. You have nearly 2 months until Results Day - if you are constantly thinking through endless 'what ifs' you will drive yourself nuts. Try not to worry - you have probably done far better than you assume.

Hi!

I hope you're exams went well! Don't panic about your results, you've done your best and no one can ask for more that that! 🙂

As others have said each University will have their own guidelines and discretions, for example an university may still consider your application and offer you a space if you're close to the grades they require. In some cases (for example myself) tyour top choice university may still offer you the place if you have made an impression or if you have extenuating circumstances - sometimes this may mean being offered an alternative course, such as a Foundation programme. If not clearing is an option and the most important thing is to keep going!

I hope this helps! 🙂
