Resitting 2026 A-Levels

Hi, I’m resitting my A-levels in 2026 privately.
I wanted to ask how predicted grades work when you’re applying independently through a private centre or a referee (like a mentor or tutor).
If I get a referee who isn’t from my previous school, would they be allowed to use my past data or results from my sixth form (like internal grades or assessments) so I had it rough this year and i didnt revise and im facing my own consequences/demise i went from being predicted A*A*A to most likely I will achieve BCD/BCE so i was wondering if I could use that previous data from mocks etc. to help justify giving me predicted grades?
Also, do universities accept predicted grades from non-school referees, as long as they’re realistic and backed up with evidence?

I just want to be sure I do this the right way, as I’m determined to turn things around and apply with strong predicted grades. Any advice from people who’ve done this would be really appreciated.
Thanks in advance 🙏

Hi there :hello:

If you are studying as a private candidate, we understand that it is not always possible to receive predicted grades from your exam centre. If you are studying with a tutor or private centre they may still be able to provide predicted grades for you we encourage you to ask for these in the first instance.

We also appreciate that obtaining a reference may be difficult for some applicants. UCAS provides some helpful advice for applicants on how to obtain a suitable reference and we encourage all applicants to explore how to acquire a reference to fully support their application. However, if you are unable to find a suitable referee we may be able to accept your application without one. Exceptions to this are for vocational or accredited courses, or if you are an International applicant. Applicants in these circumstances must provide a reference.

I kindly encourage you to get in touch with the Universities you are interested in studying at if you have any concerns about providing a suitable reference or to discuss this further.

I hope this helps!

Hey there Lauren, Thank you for telling me about this from the ucas website however i was wondering say i have a tutor which could be my referee and they had only been with me for about a month or two is it possible they could give me predicted grades via my old school end of each term predictions/assessment grades from Y12/Y13 which I was predicted high grades like A*A*A, however I achieved much worse grades due to prioritising socialising in y13 which ruined my grades for the actual exams. Is it possible to have those as official documentation? Thanks, Haadi
