How to NOT receive tuition loan this year?

I'll be re-doing 2nd year this September, but only 60 credits' worth.

However, I have already used up a gift year of student finance, plus an extra year for extenuating circumstances. I was studying illustration for a year and a half, then started a 4-year languages course, but am now having to redo half the modules for year 2 (as described above). This means I'll have to pay £4,767.50 for next year (half the cost).

Apparently all students are entitled to maintenance loan throughout the duration of their studies regardless of how many years they have to retake, so that's why I will still need to apply for loans this year.

Just wondered how I'd allocate the redo of year 2 as the one I'd be paying for (just half the cost as required), as opposed to final year where it would be full cost instead?

Also, I'm actually switching course from (Spanish and Japanese to Translation and Japanese), so I'm having to apply for loans for second year of a DIFFERENT course. Is it possible that this would affect my total tuition loans granted as well?

Thank you.
unfunded years always come first - once you need an additional year of study beyond your gift year then that year will be counted as unfunded (SFE don't save the unfunded years to the end....in case you just drop out)

If you apply for a tuition fee loan and maintenance loan for the repeat year then you'll likely be notified that you aren't eligible for a tuition fee loan for the repeat year.

Have you applied for your 25/26 finance yet? If so then you might need to put through a change of circumstances to amend the year of study and course (if you applied as if you were continuing onto year 3) - that will then trigger SFE to recognise that you'll be "unfunded" next year

I managed to apply for second year of the new course and was able to opt out of tuition loan for the coming year. Thank you so much for the information, I was worried I might miss the student finance deadline but it should be sorted now 🙂
