Hey everyone, having a bit of a dilemma atm because i really don’t know whether to apply for history or english at uni! I’m looking at Oxbridge btw if that helps at all haha but i’m equally interested in both so really have no idea

Look at the course descriptions carefully. Oxbridge courses will include more obscure stuff than most other Unis, so check the content for all years of each course. And the course structure will be different - shorter terms and more intensive study. Its not for everyone, and that has nothing to do with intellect. Go to Open Days - this will be the best way to get an idea of what you would be taking on.

Key thing to bear in mind is that an English lit degree is very much a degree in literary criticism, so bear that in mind.

If you do enjoy practicing literary criticism on texts though English lit could be a good option. You could also look at joint honours courses (e.g. Oxford history and English). If your specific area of interest is in the medieval period (both history and literature) you may want to consider ASNAC at Cambridge
