AQA cooked me, is there any hope of going into law through clearing?

AQA absolutely cooked me with chemistry and biology paper 1s, and they are supposed to be my strong ones. Most likely, I'm going to end up scraping CDD. And no, this is not me overthinking it, I'm cooked unless a miracle happens. I didn't apply to university this year because I was planning to do medicine but changed my mind and thought i'ts too late to apply. So i want to study law now, 100% sure, but I'm probably going to have to study in, like, not the best universities out there. I don't want to live away from home so I'm thinking of applying for law with foundation year to UClan, Manchester met, Salford. But I'm worried that I won't get in through clearing to these unis, many people say it's rare or hard to get in through clearing. Plus wouldn't there be less places with foundation years anyway?. Can anyone give me any advice, other than resitting my A-levels?

you can apply through clearing with the grades you get. The unis you mention will certainly be in clearing. You never know, you could get lucky. Good luck!

Many Unis will use any spaces they might have on their Foundation year for 'deserving' near-miss applicants from the main course, but it is possible that some Foundation spaces may be in Clearing. Its also likely that middle-range Unis with a good reputation for Law, like Sussex, Kent, Reading etc, will have their main Law degrees in Clearing. Many Unis will list their Clearing vacancies on their websites the evening before Results Day, so this would give you time to check grade requirements and phone numbers etc.

I'm so cooked I can't apply for a main law degree with CDD, I'm only applying to Unis near Manchester, so Salford, UCLan and Manchester Met.

You don't actually know that you have got CDD.
Its totally natural to go into a doom-spiral after exams and fear the worst, but you have probably done far better that you imagine.

I hope it's like that, thanks though.

Hi I’m not OP but I just wanted to check if for clearly do unis tend to list their normal entry requirements or do they put lower “clearing requirements” on UCAS/on their website.

From what I know, if it's like a Russell group uni, most likely they will be normal. If it's mid-tier or lower, they may give you lower grade requirements, but i don't think they put it on the website, but if you call them and tell them your situation, they may lower it. Also depends on the course.

Most will list requirements on any specific Clearing webpages, and it depends entirely on the Uni / course if these are lowered or not. Its a bit of a myth that all Unis will accept silly grades at Clearing.

Hello,

I would say that our course enquiries team would be the best people to speak to about this. They would be able to advise you best especially when it comes to clearing.

To email our course enquiries teams it would be [email protected] they take up to five days to respond to any email.

You can also give them a call on 0161 295 4545 between the hours of 10am and 4pm, Monday - Friday.

All the best with it.

Hi @kyle9999, did you manage to get a place through clearing at one of the Manchester unis? If you got a place at Manchester Met, do let us know if you have any questions. You can ask away on here, or contact our Course Enquiries team at [email protected] or on 0161 247 6969.

Hope this helps and good luck wherever you end up.
Mel 🙂

Hi there! Would love to know your outcome! Did you get better grades than you hoped and are you off to do Law in the NW on a foundation year or otherwise? Hope everything is working out well for you.
