Unis to apply to for biomedical engineering

My predicted grades are A*AA in maths, physics and biology. I am set on applying to imperial, UCL, durham and warwick. I’m not sure what to choose for my fifth option: universities i’m interested in that offer BME are glasgow, york, kings, exeter, leeds and sheffield. Any advice?
Also, I’m leaning towards sheffield, however their entry requirements state “a levels + a fourth level 3 qualification”. Does this mean I wouldn’t meet the criteria? I don’t understand how they can require an EPQ or an as level in further maths… Thanks!

Hi _estelle101,
It's great to hear that you are considering Sheffield! Biomedical Engineering at Sheffield is very well respected with the course being ranked in the top 5 for Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering by the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2025. There's also a broad choice of specialisms to choose from after second year, which allows you to tailor your degree to your interests!

Unfortunately, I am an MSc Cancer Biology and Therapeutics student, therefore I have no personal experience of Biomedical Engineering. However, you can chat to current students doing the course here: https://www.sheffield.ac.uk/study/chat. They can give you valuable insights about what it's like to study Biomedical Engineering here at Sheffield. 🙂

For any specific admissions questions, such as requirements for the course, I would contact the admissions team directly. Information on how to do so can be found here: https://www.sheffield.ac.uk/contact/prospective-students.

If possible, it may also be helpful to attend Sheffield's upcoming open day or online events as this will give you a great idea about the atmosphere on campus and what it's like to study at Sheffield. The next open days are on Sat 21st June 2025 and Sat 5 July 2025. The links for the open days and Sheffield Live online events can be found here:
https://www.sheffield.ac.uk/study/online-events

I hope this helped,
Sofia

Hi _estelle101

Great to see you have Exeter on your list. We have Biomedical Engineering available as a three year BEng or four year MEng. For studying this course, you will be based at the Streatham Campus in Exeter which is an amazing open green landscape with all the facilities you could hope for on hand and a walkable distance from city centre shopping.

Our next open days will be 4th and 25th October. Express your interest on our website and you should get a reminder in August when bookings are expected to open. Undergraduate Open Days. You can also visit for a campus tour and we provide offer holder days in the Spring if you do apply and are successful in gaining a place for September 2026.

Take a look at our Choose Exeter webpages to find out more.

A bit late so I'm not sure if you've figured this out already but on the website it says:
AAB including Maths and a science
A Levels + a fourth Level 3 qualification ABB, including Maths and a science + B in a relevant EPQ; ABB, including Maths and a science + B in AS or A Level Further Maths

I think what this is saying is that if you have taken FM or an EPQ, the entry requirements are reduced - you can still apply.
