Clearing question

Maybe a stupid question, but if I go through clearing can they still offer a place for deferred entry w/foundation year? Worried they’ll only offer me a place for this year which I don’t want to do..

Clearing is only for entry this year. They don't know what spaces they'll have available next year.

As above, for 2026 entry you would have to reapply through UCAS in the autumn for 5 new choices.
Clearing is only for 2025 entry.

Hey!

You are unable to defer your course through Clearing. Clearing aims to fill positions for the current academic year, and universities do not normally provide deferred places through this process. If you wish to defer your entry, you must apply directly to the university for postgraduate courses or through UCAS for undergraduate courses. After securing a place, you can request a deferral. However, this request is not guaranteed and is subject to the university's policies.

Thanks,
LSBU team

Hey there!

Clearing usually works to fill places from this year which haven’t yet been filled! If you are wanting to defer a place, it’s best to apply via UCAS extra and ask to defer your place!

I hope this helps,

Hi @ellaren ,

Thank you for your message 😊

In general, most universities don’t offer deferred entry through Clearing, as the idea is to fill any available spots for this year. However, a few might allow it depending on course demand, so it’s worth asking when you speak to them.

The best thing to do is to contact the institutions you're interested in directly and ask. Their Admissions or Clearing teams will be happy to let you know what’s possible and guide you through your options.

I hope that this helps!

Best wishes,

Hello there,
At Coventry University you can apply to any one of our courses with industry years or foundation years through clearing if they are listed on our clearing website and we have a wide range of courses each year. However if you want to take a gap year or defer you must reapply as we do not offer clearing places for 2026 until they open for everyone in the Summer of 2026.
