ADVICE: Apprenticeship after my gap year

Hi everyone, so I am officially done with my A-level exams. I took History, Economics and Sociology. Unfortunately I dont think I did very well.

Background: I am taking a gap year from July- it is going to be very productive. I am going abroad, and have some internships in place as well as hopefully volunteering at a school. I'm also doing some personal development courses, such as advanced braiding courses (black girlie here lol), nail tech courses and advanced baking courses.

Now getting to the point lol: I really want to be an apprentice once my gap year is completed, avoiding the route of university.

Do you guys have any recomendations on apprenticeships I can look up and later apply to? Specifically within the Level 3 or 4 Business sector.

Any apprentices please reply as well, would love to hear about your experiences and progress within the company if that took place.

Thanks everyoneee

Hi @eniforshort_

Congratulations on completing your A-levels! I am sure you have done amazing, don't be so harsh on yourself!

I took a gap year before I started uni last year and it was the best experience of my life. I went abroad like you said you are going to do. Where are you planning on going? I went to Thailand and Australia for a few months and it really boosted my confidence and definitely gave me the bug to travel more! Good luck with your travels! It definitely sounds as though you will be making the most of your gap year which is very good!

An apprenticeship sounds like a great idea, particularly if uni isn't your first choice. In terms of where to find them, the government website has a section dedicated to apprenticeships, I will attach the link for you now. https://www.gov.uk/apply-apprenticeship. I was weighing up the option of potentially doing an apprenticeship instead of uni and found the gov website to be very helpful so I hope you are able to benefit from it as much as I did! You can select the level and sector you wish to do the apprenticeship in as-well!

I hope you manage to find a suitable apprenticeship for the future and I hope you enjoy your gap year! I am sure it will be full of fun. Let me know if you have any other questions, I am more than happy to help!

Thanks, Matt 🙂
