Do Universities Care about attendance?

Hi i take level 3 extended course in art and design, i’ve gotten all distinctions this year for context. I have okay attendance rn at about 93% but we’ve finished content for the year and with the 3 hour gaps between lessons on monday and friday, i don’t want to go in just to be on my phone tje whole time, it’s been like this for about 2 weeks now and it’s exhausting, especially with all my friends (i restarted) finishing college so i have no one to be with during breaks. However if i do stay off days i can’t bear to do this routine, my attendance will go down and i’m worried this will ruin my
chance at Uni.

It wont. Unis dont care.
But it could mess up your potential grades.

In terms of offers, your attendence record at college will have absolutely no impact - it's getting the right grades that's important. The attendance thing could start to matter at uni if the lack of attendance started to impact on your ability to keep up with the course, so maybe something to examine before you start uni.

Hey!

Congrats on getting all distinctions, that’s amazing!!

In terms of attendance, most unis don’t look at your attendance percentage specifically when reviewing applications, they would care more about your grades, personal statement, and reference. Since you're getting top marks, you're already in a strong position!

With that being said, your college might mention attendance in your reference, so if you do miss days, it's a good idea to make sure your teachers know it’s not about slacking, just that the schedule isn’t productive for you anymore since you’ve finished the content, which is fine!

If you’re exhausted and the long gaps are draining, you could talk to a tutor about how you’re feeling. They might be understanding, especially if your work is already done and you're keeping up with everything?

But all in all: no, unis won’t reject you just for a dip in attendance, especially not at this stage, but do keep communication open with your tutors so it doesn't reflect badly in your reference!

I hope this helps! 🙂
