Getting a job before uni

Hi there, so I’m wondering how I’m going to get a job whilst I study at Bangor uni . It was said to me to look at the employment page on my university website, but when I do click on that link it directs me to log in with student sign in, which I do not have yet. Will have to wait till I’ve enrolled and registered when I get there or is it possible for me to get a job in preparation for then?

Hi @xstalx

It might be worth contacting the uni themselves to see if there is anything that you can do to be able to look at available jobs for when you start. My other bit of advice would be to look into Unitemps and see if Bangor uni offer it. Unitemps offer lots of jobs for students from helping out with open days to what I am doing now by answering your questions! It is well paid and they make sure your hours fit around your course so that's a bonus! Here is the link if you wish to find out any further info. https://www.unitemps.com/find-a-job/.

Bangor uni might not offer unitemps but it is worth the look just incase. On the other hand, hopefully contacting the uni will mean they can sort something out for you to be able to look at the employment page and potentially find something!

Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions. I hope the response has helped slightly!

Thanks, Matt 🙂

Thank you! I did drop them an email a few days ago, but they haven’t got back to me, even though they’re usually quick to reply I don’t want to be that person sending them an email over and over again, so I’m just assuming they have a high volume of emails to reply to. Thank you for the link I’ll be sure to have a look!

Hi @xstalx 👋

It's awesome that you're already thinking ahead about getting a job before you even arrive at Bangor 💼💪

You're right you won’t be able to log in to the uni's jobs portal until you've officially enrolled and received your student login. They will be in touch soon, they're probably dealing with a lot of queries right now (just before graduation). But don’t worry! There are lots of opportunities waiting once you get here:

🔸 Welcome Week is a great time to find out about on-campus jobs there’s a big fair where different departments and employers promote student roles.
🔸 Look out for the Student Ambassador scheme you get paid to represent the uni at Open Days, help out with events, create social media content, and more. It's super flexible around your studies.
🔸 The uni’s catering outlets often hire students too think coffee shops, cafes, bars etc. It’s a great way to meet people and earn some cash 💸
🔸 In second year, you can also apply to be a Campus Life crew member or a mentor these roles come with perks like free accommodation in halls in exchange for supporting other students.

I worked a few different jobs during my time here, so I’d be happy to share tips or send you some useful links. Would you rather I DM you some info instead of posting emails and stuff here publicly?

Let me know 😊
