i want to switch to a BTEC next year and my dad is not happy about it.

ok for context im in year 12 and doing a level bio, chem and maths. my dad has never really been pushing me to pick a levels when i was in year 11 but i decided to pick those options after results day. ok so throughout the year i have been STRUGGLING with biology like really really bad. and i was too far into the year to realise that maybe a level biology wasnt for me. i talked to one of my teachers about dropping just biology but she said i couldnt do that because it wouldnt make me a full time student. my chemistry grade is alright but my maths isnt.. so she suggested i do BTEC applied science instead which isnt bad (this is what i wanted to do initially in year 11). i told my dad about it and he gave me a whole lecture as to how i should do stick with levels and that btec wont get me far in life (btw i have read the entry requirements for the unis i want to go to and all of them accept applied science..). he says that i wont be able to get into uni with it even thought i know i could. i try explaining to him that im struggling so hard with biology and i cant just drop biology but all he says is "try harder" like he literally DOES NOT GET IT. anyways on tuesday this week we had mocks but i didnt sit the biology one since its confirmed im switching to btec next year and my dad says i have to do it tmr even though i know my teacher wont let me do it bc he already gave me the chance to do it on tuesday and i said no bc im switching. he literally said if i switch to btec next year hes going to kick me out of the house.. i really dont know what to do please help!!

oh yeah i forgot to add this but.. earlier this week it was confirmed by the head of STEM that im switching to BTEC and i told my dad and all he said was to "have another chat with them because your not doing btec ur sticking to alevel". also he did say that he doesnt care if i switch my subjects and repeat year twelve AS LONG AS IT IS NOT A BTEC. the thing is.. i want to do vet nursing in uni and all of them require biology a level other than that its a btec.. plus there is not other a level subject that i am interested in picking.. what do you guys think??

alright - it's just you said 'all of them require biology a level,' and it also seems that almost all of them do require biology. Anyway, do you not think maybe if you can't get above a D in biology doing a heavily biology based degree may not be a smart move?

The key here is to realise that your dad's anger is probably misdirected anxiety. He's worried that you'll limit your options or chances by dropping Biology, and he wants you to be in the very best place going forward - Dads are like that, trust me 🙂 The best way of going about getting him on board is to explain to him how doing the BTEC doesn't change your chances of being able to do what you want afterwards - you could show him course literature, ask your teachers to mention this at the next Parents' evening (if you have these things), or ask or yoru teachers/lecturers to directly address this to him to allay his fears.

its not biology he has a problem with its btec 😭😭 he honestly would not care what course i did as long as its a level. also i tried explaining to him A LOT but in his mind, a level = going to uni, btec = not going to uni. and i am going to try and talk to one of my teachers about this tmr

Indeed - so you need to show him that BTEC isn't some lesser version of A levels for your purposes.
