advice for vet med entry 2027

hello!

i just wanted to see if anyone could offer any advice, i am hoping to apply for entry in 2027 to study Veterinary Medicine, however this was a last minute decision, so i have had to self study my a levels online which i will be taking the exams for in 2027, initially i was applying to bristol, uclan, edinburgh and glasgow. as these unis don’t require 5 gcses at grade 7, as i have passed all my gcses but only with 5s. but from reading different peoples posts, it seems impossible to get into scotland uni’s so i’m wondering if i should change my scope and retake 5 gcses and be able to apply for different unis. i hope that makes sense!

Hii! Awesome to see your wanting to go into vet med 😆 I applied for this year and in all honesty I would suggest trying to resit your GCSEs to open up the scope of unis you can apply to so that you can select more based on what each uni offers so that you have the best experience you can! I personally applied to vet med at the RVC, Edi, Notts and H&K as well as gateway to vet med at the RVC. If you have any questions about the universities or application or anything at all just send a message here or pm ☺️

If you don't want to apply to Edinburgh and Glasgow, my advice would be to do an Access to HE Diploma.

Bristol and UCLan both accept them. Bristol have a guaranteed offer policy if you do an Access course and meet the grade requirements.

An Access course could be cheaper. Advanced Learner Loans for Access courses are written off when you complete the degree.

I like that with an Access course, you get your grades as you progress through the course, so you know if you're on track to meet the grade requirements.

If you do an Access course, you could apply for 2026 entry.
