Paul Robeson House SOAS

Hi everyone,
I’ve just received an offer for a studio at Paul Robeson House for my postgraduate year at SOAS. However, I’ve seen a lot of negative reviews online, and I’m feeling quite nervous about accepting the offer.

If anyone is currently staying there or has lived there recently, I’d really appreciate it if you could share your honest experience especially regarding safety, cleanliness, noise, management, and the general environment.

Would you recommend it for a SOAS student, or should I look for alternative options?
Any insights would be really helpful. Thanks in advance!

Hi ! I too accepted a place to PRH for this Sep but am also exploring options on the side. Anything you heard from other students?

I stayed in Block C 2022-3, which had recently been refurbished and was great - good and clean, new equipment in the kitchen, etc. I don't know if any or all of the others have been refurbished since - otherwise, it's luck of the draw as to where you are put.
My room was on the Pentonville road side, and was nice and quiet. However, the inside quadrangle(?) could get noisy with students ignoring the 11pm noise curfew.

Hi! In your room were the walls and ceilings also renovated or were they the old, super textured and bumpy ones? Like these ones on their website's virtual tour: https://www.soas.ac.uk/paul-robeson-house

I've got a big creepy fear of such surfaces and so I'm not sure if I can accept my PRH offer!

How was the cleanliness for you in blk C?

Hi Everyone,

I am a current student staying at PRH, and you are right, only Block C has been renovated. The rest of the blocks are old and run-down. I would recommend going for a viewing if you are sceptical. The staff are super helpful and responsive. I had a few issues, and they got them fixed at the earliest. So, overall, my experience was okay, but I would definitely consider other options.

All the best
