timing for as/alevel chemistry

i’m in year 12 and i have mocks next week.
i’ve been struggling on chemistry with the timed conditions being only 1 hour 30 mins (as paper)!!!
i did one yesterday but did it in 1 hr 50 mins 😭 idk what i’m doing wrong i feel like it’s the maths questions that take me the longest but it’s stressing me out esp with section b being just multiple choices but i have to think a lot for them

anyone that did the chem papers for AS, tips will be helpful! thank u :,)

Yeah, sorry, I can't help directly u with this as I do OCR. Although in ur post you mentioned it could be the maths questions which are often quite easy if u understand the theory behind them. I'd say time each type of question to see what's taking you the longest and also I'd say to improve your overall understanding of the theory in order to improve at the multiple choice and trying to target what the question actually wants.

Hi @stylistic-schola

You could try doing the questions out of order. For example, answer the questions you can answer quickly and that are worth more marks first and then go back to the more difficult questions after.

Before my exams, I used to work out how many minutes to spend each on each mark by dividing the total number of marks by the length of this exam. This means that you can work out how long to spend on each question based on the number of marks. This can be tricky with multiple choice questions as they often take longer than a minute to answer, you could reduce the time by estimating and then go back to calculate properly if you have time.

Hope that helps!

For me, I always did multiple choice first (tbf I was decent at it so I just got the easier questions out the way in maybe 20 mins or less I can’t remember) and then I’d do the other section like normal.
