Can I apply for a different degree to what my personal statement about?

So I want to do Midwifery at uni (intending to apply with a midwifery ps) but realistically there are only 3 nearby unis that I would consider going to due to travelling restrictions and I was wondering would it be possible to use 3/5 ucas spots for the 3 unis I would actually do midwifery at and then for the last 2, apply for adult nursing at 2 different universities (not any of the ones I've applied for midwifery at). Only asking because I would love to do adult nursing so I wouldn't mind having them as the last 2 options just in case?

You can, but you have to make sure your personal statement applies to both courses as you can only write one. Luckily those are very similar courses so you can just focus on how you want to help people and work as a team to improve people's lives, and your interest in biology. Just don't focus too much on just one of the options

Would it be a bad idea to say I applied to the University of Leeds (or any other uni) to do midwifery as one of my first 3 options, to also fill up my 4th or 5th space with University of Leeds adult nursing? Would they be reviewed independently or would it seem like my passion and interests are conflicting and cause both of them to be rejected?

I don't think they'd be seen as conflicting since they're both very similar, it shows you're passionate about working in healthcare and helping people. Since all of your first choices are midwifery, They'd at least consider you passionate about that course. You'd have lower chances of getting into adult nursing but I don't think they'd reject you out right for it.
