Which pathway should I choose? (psychology Msci at Uni of York)

The 3 options are:
Clinical psychology.
Neurodevelopmental disorders.
Neuroscience and neuro-imaging.

I want to become a counsellor/psychotherapist (CBT and DBT) or PWP as a backup option. I definitely don't want to do a PhD.

Which would be the most appropriate option for my career? The clinical psychology option includes CBT but clinical psychologists have PhDs and that's not the job I want to do. Neurodevelopmental disorders seems really interesting to me, but I assume that's intended for educational psychologists.

just my opinion, not in any way qualified to answer really, but id recommend studying neurodevelopmental disorders. My reasoning for this is because i have heard that theres a huge problem within mental health type services for counselling if you have a neurodevelopmental condition. Those types of conditions often cause people to develop mental health problems during their teenage years or later in life (as they can cause isolation and low self esteem due to societal expectations) and can mean a different approach is needed in psychotherapy for those individuals because they are less likely to be able to respond to traditional therapy. Hope that helps 🙂

@godofpigeons

I would check the Governments careers advice guidance page for psychotherapists Psychotherapist | Explore Careers | National Careers Service

Of those options, I would avoid neuroscience as its nothing like psychotherapy

This is what I was thinking too! Part of why I want to use DBT is because it can be better for people with ADHD and OCD than CBT
