MPharm at Sunderland or Newcastle

Hi guys,

I've applied and got offers from both Newcastle (firm) and Sunderland (insurance), with AAB and BBB as the conditional offers. I am having a horrible time with A-levels, and I don't think results day is going to go well; current predictions are Spanish is at an A/B, biology is at a B/C, and chemistry is at a C/D.

I was hoping if anybody had results specifically for MPharm and, hopefully, for Newcastle or Sunderland that did not meet the conditional offer, and did they let you in, did you have to go through clearing, resit? Idk, I'm not feeling too great about Chemistry, even though I find it the most interesting.

Lastly any advice?
Thanks

Hi,

I attend Newcastle uni, and I am familiar with Sunderland too; although I dont do MPharm. I believe that Newcastle University is seen as superior to Sunderland in more ways than others, so take that with what you will.

If you are uncertain about getting into Newcastle, you should consider applying to the Newcastle Partners scheme (https://www.ncl.ac.uk/partners/) which provides you reduced grade entry (say you need ABB, it becomes BCC) so it is more easier to get in. The actual scheme itself is easy and it's only doing 2-3 days in person and the remaining days of that week online- it is easy.

In other terms, you will prefer Newcastle to Sunderland as it has a greater city, better social opportunities, and services avaliable. You could also consider Northumbria, which I believe if you were to rank the three: Newcastle, Northumbria, Sunderland.

Hope this helps

Hello,

I study pharmacy at university of Sunderland. It ranked 1st in the Guardian university ranking and the course is really immersive with a lot of practical sessions. The staff are really involved with the students learning and are specialists in their field.

In terms of social opportunities, the night life here in Sunderland is very lively with the city undergoing majorly upgrades regularly and new restaurants opening in the city centre.

The university has continuous events going on and if you still want to go to Newcastle, there metro runs all throughout the city with cheap ticket prices and a short journey.

If you are planning to move away, living in Sunderland is much cheaper than Newcastle and shops such as Aldi or lidl are accessible from the majority of the accommodations.

Good luck with your exams. You got this!
