Extenuating Circumstances Exeter

So I’ve just finished my A Levels and safe to say, they didn’t go as great as I would have hoped.

I firmed the Uni of Exeter to study Middle East Studies.

I qualified for a contextual offer for Exeter which saw my grade requirement reduced to BBC, but I’m genuinely scared I won’t even make that, I’m pretty certain I hit around the BCC or CCC grades, so one or two off the requirement.

With that being said, my counsellor at sixth form has written up an extenuating circumstances form for me and has included all the stuff that has affected my grades throughout the entirety of sixth form (bullying, and severe parental illnesses during the actual A Level exam season)

Worst case scenario, I actually end up getting BCC or CCC, with the EC submission and me being a contextual offer student, is there a chance of me still getting into the course? I’ve also been wondering if whether the fact that the course I’m aiming to study there (Middle East Studies) is not necessarily an “oversubscribed” course like law or medicine will help my case a tad?
I do hear Exeter are quite lenient on results day but one can never be too sure so if anyone could give some advice it’d be much appreciated!

Hey! Exeter are quite lenient and even upon enrolment and applications they do ask if you have had any extenuating circumstances so I think you will be fine 🙂 equally no matter what happens, one shut door doesn't limit your exits, there will be another path and everything will work out! your exams are done and there is nothing you can do right now to change the outcome, so enjoy your holiday and remove it from your mind, it may help to reach out to admissions team and pre-warn them of your circumstances to put your mind at ease, good luck soldier you got this!

i do hope they’re lenient, especially considering the course i’ve applied to isn’t exactly overly “in demand”.
i’ve had my heart set on moving out for uni so this summer’s really just full of anticipation tbh, which is scary but as u said, one shut door doesn’t limit exits.
fingers crossed for Exeter though!
Thank you so much🙏🏽🙏🏽

Honestly keep it up, I myself have been offered a sort of place at Exeter and they've given me 3 extensions for application due to my own circumstances- very friendly

Hi everyone I’m a offer holder for medicine A100, and my offer was an AAA in my a level subjects , but I think I got a B in biology and chemistry, I am a young carer and a contextual applicant, I am going to do an extenuating circumstances form but do you think that they would accept an ABB worst case scenario I am really worried.

Hey I do think so 🙂 I can't promise but they extended my actual application twice due to my responsibilities as a young carer and as it was exam season, the offer they have given me is for AAB which isn't off much from what you have, reach out, be honest and if not, it will work out,

Goodluck!

Hi Anonymous#1

Please do take some time to check out our guidance for informing our Admissions team of any Extenuating Circumstances. It is important to let them know as soon as possible.
