There are no jobs that require a degree in Crim. It does not make you a 'Criminologist' as that is a sub-branch of Psychology.

It would be far better to take Sociology, Psychology, or a more general 'Social Science' degree that usually includes aspects of deviancy, criminal justice, social policy etc, or you could look at Law which has more obvious career pathways.
Sociology, BSc (Hons) - Swansea University
Social Policy, Sociology & Crime BSc | University of Leeds
Childhood, Youth Studies and Education degrees | University of Portsmouth
Law with Psychology LLB (Hons) Undergraduate Course | Nottingham Trent University

Hi my daughter works in Forensics. At entry level it was about good GCSEs and A levels. She has a degree but the main requirement for entry was lab experience. She got that in the NHS for a year after graduating then was successful in the Forensic Civil Service competition. Hope that helps.

Hi @helen28770

I’m a Master’s student in the social sciences, and one of my coursemates did Sociology with Criminology and really enjoyed it. She focused her research on graffiti, vandalism, and political resistance, even doing her dissertation in Amsterdam! She’s now working in local government and regeneration—so there are definitely interesting career paths after a criminology degree.

If you’re interested in a hands-on course with things like simulation exercises and international field trips, it might be worth looking at what LJMU offers in Criminology and Social Science: https://www.ljmu.ac.uk/study/subjects/criminology-and-sociology

To explore where a degree might lead, you might want to look at our on-demand page—just search “Criminology” for in-depth presentations from course leaders (no login needed): https://www.ljmu.ac.uk/on-demand/login

It’s also a great idea to attend an open day to see if you'd prefer Criminology on its own or combined with another subject: https://www.ljmu.ac.uk/study/undergraduate-students/undergraduate-open-days

And if you’d like to chat with current students, many unis (including LJMU) you can use Unibuddy so you can ask them what the course is really like: https://www.ljmu.ac.uk/study/undergraduate-students/chat-to-a-student

Hope that helps—and best of luck with deciding your next steps!
