Is anyone else struggling to schedule the exam, I’ve applied and been confirmed but it won’t let me schedule it and says there’s no available appointments but there’s no way it’s fully booked yet, I’ve been checking since it opened

Hello! I am an incoming first-year Cambridge Physical Natural Sciences student who sat the ESAT last year. I achieved top scores in the ESAT, including an 8.9 in Maths 2, which obviously contributed to my success.

One thing that I noticed was that there weren't nearly enough practice resources available online for me to comprehensively prepare. In my experience, ESAT Ninja wasn't useful, with many errors on the website.

As a result, over the summer I have created 3 sets of Maths 1 practice papers for students to use, which I believe reflect the standard of the ESAT. I plan to create a set of papers for Maths 2 as well as for Physics (since these were the modules I sat). If you are interested in purchasing or want any general tips, please send me a PM and we can discuss pricings etc from there.

Thank you and good luck everyone!

Hey everyone,

For the past month, I have been collecting advice for the ESAT and the PAT from several successful applicants and compiled them in a video. So people can get a better idea of what they are like and how to best prepare for them without paying for courses and resources.

The video covers exam techniques like how to train for better speed and accuracy, as well as free resources that you can practise with. I got 8.9 in Math I, 7.9 in both Physics and Math II, other high scorers at my school also gave similar advice, so I think you will find it helpful . All the best with your ESAT!

hey, I did the esat last year (maths1, maths2 and physics) and am starting Engineering at Cambridge in a few days. here's what i'd advise

if you haven't already, definitely check out the spec to make sure you're familiar and comfortable with all the topics on there. what worked for me was creating a flashcard set/sheet with a list of all the maths and physics formulas that could come up. if you can recall formulas quickly off by heart you'll save a fair amount of time on certain questions

definitely spend some time working on mental maths, as thats a massive factor in how fast you can solve a question.

in terms of resources to use, here's the ones that helped me the most (other than the obvious ones like ESAT sample papers and engaa/nsaa papers):

TMUA Paper 1 is really good for maths 2 practice, and so is an old econ admissions test on pmt (paper 1 section 1b - https://www.physicsandmathstutor.com/admissions/ecaa/)
stimulate learning have worked solutions for all the engaa papers from 2016 to 2023 (couldn't find them elsewhere so i thought this was pretty good - https://stimulate-learning.org/solvedpapers.php)
also try like online practice portals, they're a great way to get used to the style of questions and build up speed as well. exams ninja have one and stimulate have one too (https://stimulate-learning.org/practicezone.html)

biggest piece of advice from me would be working on speed. while the questions definitely aren't easy, most of them are pretty doable so if you can get to a point where you can go through most of the paper and get most of the questions right when doing past papers, you should be fine.

hope that helps (sorry its a bit long😭)
