Uni of exeter missed grades

I got an offer for ABB, and since i firmed them it was lowered to a BBB or ABC (or any equivalent). I dont think i'll get either of those grades cause of physics and most likely get a BBC or BCC. Will they still let me in with those grades or no chance? thanks

That would depend on how many places are left on the course (if any) after offer-holders who meet their offer conditions have had their places confirmed. Unfortunately, that's unknowable. What degree is this for?

If you look at the "Historical entry grades data" section of this UCAS page, you'll see that they have accepted candidates who achieved BBC in recent years.

Note that UCAS discard the top and bottom 5% whilst compiling this data, so there could have been some BCC candidates accepted too. But, equally, all the BCC and BBC candidates accepted may have been contextual.

Also, the above does not mean they'll do the same this year.

How come you had your grades lowered if you had firmed them, did you get a contexual offer ?

oh that's odd. May i ask what you offer is from them? This i what my email said from them if you were curious 🙂

Based on your strong predicted grades and your application overall, we are confident that you can make an outstanding contribution to our student community. We would therefore like to confirm that; as you have chosen us as your firm choice, we guarantee to accept you if you miss your offer by one grade *, excluding any subject requirements stated in your original offer.
* Equivalent to one A level grade drop.
Here are some examples of how this will work:
You choose Exeter as your firm choice:

If your offer was AAA at A ‘level', we would confirm your place if you achieve AAB or compensating grades (A*BB or A*A*C).

If your offer was IB 36/666 overall, we would confirm your place if you achieve IB 34/665.

If your offer was 16 overall in the French Baccalaureate, we would confirm your place if you achieve 15.

If your offer was 86% in the Indian Y12 School Certificate overall, we will confirm your place if you achieve 82%.

Any specific subject requirements stated within your offer would still need to be achieved at the grade stated.

I don't think it is subject secific to my course either

I applied with ABC and course grade requirement was AAB-ABB
Exeter historically have been pretty "flexible" on results day. Engineering also in particular tends to take a pretty broad range of not-so near misses as well.

I'd be surprised if you weren't accepted unless you get a C in maths or something.

I'd defininetly get a B in maths its just physics which dropped down to a C. So do you think there is still a chance for me to still get into exeter with a BBC (more likely) or BCC (really worst case senario)?

I think BBC would probably be fine. That said I'm pretty sure there were some people who actually got CCC when I was there...

Would you say that business management would be the same as engineering in terms of populaity ?

I did not love my time there for a lot of reasons. Student support for students on DSA is very poor. Academically speaking it's probably a reasonable target in your case.

I'm studying a different course at a different uni now after taking a number of years out of higher education to manage mental health issues that became considerable worse there, for whatever that is worth.

Hi Anonymous2246

The Student Room is a great platform that allows our Student Ambassador Reps to comment on their own experiences at the University so that anyone interested in studying with us can get a feel for student life with us. If you have any specific questions about current student life at Exeter then we would be happy to answer these for you. We also have plenty of options to visit us and find out more as well as our dedicated enquiries team and the Ask a current student feature. I'd also like to highlight that Student health and wellbeing are always the top priority of the university, and we are continually seeking to ensure the best student experience and academic support is available for all.

There is a wide range of services, support, and advice for students at the University. It is recommended to look at our Wellbeing support services at the earliest opportunity if you are already aware you may need additional support while studying here. Please note from this page you can follow information for whether you are based in Cornwall or Devon.

New students are invited to contact our Wellbeing Services before they start at the University so that they can get advice information and support as early as possible.

This webpage provides an index so you can navigate to the different areas of Student Wellbeing support: https://www.exeter.ac.uk/students/wellbeing/index/

For information on the Student Wellbeing team in Cornwall, please visit this page: https://www.exeter.ac.uk/students/wellbeing/cornwall-student-welfare/

***Pastoral Mentors***
More recently the University is rolling out Pastoral Mentors in some departments as a point of contact for students who are facing challenges that impact their ability to study and be successful in their programme. They are also a point of contact for Personal Tutors (also known as Academic Tutors) and provide end-to-end support for student queries, including signposting to expert services as required.

Additionally, there is also Peer support programmes across all faculties. Peer Support helps students gain informal support from higher year students who have been in the same position whether in relation to academia (e.g. same module or discipline) or the transition to university life.

I hope this information and the links provided shows that there is ample support when studying with us and enables you to find out more. At the University of Exeter we are always looking to ensure that our students are supported in both their wellbeing and academically, to enable you to achieve to the best of your ability.

Guys I'm applying to Exeter this year for sport and exercise science and i get contextuals and i got a conditional offer for bbc, do you think they'll also lower my offer by a grade if i firm them? i know for sure they're my top choice so im gonna firm them anyway but it'd be nice if they lowered it.

for contextuals they don't also lower a grade further if you firm (as they have already lowered the typical offer by 2 grades anyway) please correct me if i'm wrong! BBC is a pretty good offer for Exeter!
