Psychology University Advice

Hello! Been wanting some advice for good psychology universities, however I am not interested in applying to UCL or Oxbridge. I'm working at an A*/A for all 3 of my subjects.
I've been having a look at York, Bristol, Nottingham, Surrey, KCL etc! So any insider info from students is appreciated lol.
(I only do one science so may have to rule out universities which require two)
Hi @ragyos ,

I thought I'd just hop on here to say I really recommend checking out as many open days as you possibly can to help you choose the best place for you! ☀️

I know in my experience I had really set expectations for universities I thought would be best for me but then once I got on campus it was a completely different experience...and the ones I didn't expect to prefer really surprised me! They are a great chance to get a feel of the campus, quiz some future lecturers and explore the psychology department (very useful for a research-based subject like psychology as you can see what research areas the staff have!), plus you can chat to students and get that insider info 😄

There may still be some June/July open days to catch at various places so definitely check this out if you haven't already, I know we just had our June open day date at the UoS, or if not then the next round tend to start around September/October time.

Good luck on your search 🧠

Have you looked at the Complete University Guide tables as a starting point? New ones came out a few days ago.
Visit lots and look at the modules. Decide on city, campus etc etc. That helped my daughter decide on a short list. Her teacher had recommended Bath but she didn’t like it at all- just gut feel. Same with Bristol.

Hello @ragyos,

That’s great to hear that you have been looking at unis, and of course I would recommend the University of Southampton! I’m a second year psychology student and I love how the course is so customisable and there are so many module options. It’s a Russell group university and the entry requirements are AAA if you don’t take psychology, maths or a science at A-level, or AAB if you do. The course website can be found here.

I would recommend visiting as many open days as you can so you can get a feel for the course and campus. Looking at what modules are on offer and whether or not they align with your interests could also be useful.

Hope this helped and let me know if you have any more questions!
