A bereavement would usually fall under mitigating circumstances rather than a contextual/reduced offer.

Tthat’s nice to know. Do you know if unis will take this into consideration?? I’m going to retake all 3 sciences and I’m sure I’ll get 9s. Do russel unis care (specifically Cambridge) or are my chances small. Thank you for your previous reply!!

Can’t speak for Cambridge but most unis don’t mind GCSE retakes so that would not disadvantage you.

Your overall GCSE profile is only taken into account for very competitive subjects. There is a space in the reference for your referee to mention anything that might have affected your studies. Some unis also have a separate process for submitting mitigating circumstances.

There's no point in doing both, applying for mitigating circumstances AND resitting. Do one or the other, and preferably, not resisting, because focussing on getting the best A level grades is far more important. If you achieve, or exceed the course requirements, you take GCSEs with mitigation out of the equation.

Hello. The unis won't take this into account. Their stance is that any of this will have been taken in to account already by the exam boards, by the candidate having applied for special consideration.
