I wanted to share my experience studying at Futureworks in Manchester, in case it helps anyone considering applying. I dropped out during my first year, and honestly, I don’t feel like I got anything out of it.
Firstly, there’s no university-sponsored or affiliated accommodation, which made finding somewhere to live both difficult and expensive—especially compared to more traditional universities.
There was also no proper communal study area or library, which made it hard to find a quiet, consistent space to work outside of lectures. The lack of dedicated student spaces really affected my ability to study effectively.
Student support was practically non-existent. I didn’t feel like there was anyone to turn to when things got difficult, and that isolation was a big part of why I ended up leaving.
The course structure wasn’t very flexible either. Modules ran the entire year, so if you had a medical issue or a personal emergency (which I did), you’d fall behind immediately—and there was no real way to catch up.
I also found that some tutors clearly had favourites, which made it harder to engage if you weren’t one of them. It felt like if you didn’t immediately click with them, you got overlooked.
All in all, I wouldn’t recommend Futureworks based on my experience. It might work for some people, but it wasn’t the right environment for me—and I wish I’d known more about what it was like before enrolling.
Happy to answer questions if anyone has any.
