Student finance application

I have interrupted my undergraduate course due to mental health during my second year, and I am looking to change a course for the next academic year.
I now have an offer for a course from another university, where I need to start from the first year. That means I need to apply for extra year funding support from SFE. I would like to go ahead with the new course that I believe is more sustainable with my mental health condition, but I am scared of withdrawing from the current course without knowing whether I can get the extra year funding support for the new course, as I can't afford to self-fund.

Can I apply for a student loan and extra year support for the new course while interrupting the current course? Or do I have to withdraw from the current course before applying student loan with extra year support for the new course?

Thank you.
I've moved your question to the Ask SFE forum so that an official rep can advise you (during office hours).

Hi there,

If it's the same university you'll be studying at you can apply for the new course you intend to study and submit your evidence to receive the extra year of funding. If you then decide to stay on the original course you (or your university) can amend this if your situation changes. Thanks, Jason

Thank you for your reply. Would it be different if the new course is in a different school?

It would be the same but we would need them to update us depending on the year of your course. Your eligibility for tuition fees will also depend on your previous study and the year you're intending to go into. Thanks, Jason

Thank you, Jason, but I'm sorry, I'm a bit confused.
Do I have to withdraw from the current course and get them to update you before applying for student finance for the new course? Or is it possible to apply for student finance before withdrawing from my current course? The current course (studied for 2 years) and the new course are at different schools. The new one is a 3-year course and starting from the 1st year, therefore I need to apply for an extra year support (I believe). Thank you.

If you finish the full year then you can apply for the new course as a returning student via your account. But if you've withdrawn prior to the year finishing then the university may send us a 'withdrawal' notice and in which case, you'd need to apply as a new student once that's been updated. Thanks, Jason
