The Importance of Summer Schools!

Hi everyone,

I am Olivia (4th year) and I have worked on many Summer Schools now and wanted to share with you some of the benefits of attending a Summer School, especially if you are unsure whether to or not :smile:

1. Friendship building
As much as we can appreciate you may all have a set of friends already, going to university is a great time in your life to meet new people and make new friendships. Summer schools are great ways to step outside of your comfort zone and begin the new university friendships.

2. Get a true to life insight into university
Summer schools allow you to live like a student, giving you an insight into living in student accommodation and attending university. You will get the chance to not only live in student accommodation for a few days, but also to sit in on university classes such as lecture style workshops, giving you an insight into the set up of your student life!

3. Freedom
It can be somewhat hard to gain your own freedom when living at home/attending school, but Summer School gives you several days of freedom, being your own person, with just some guidance from staff. This is also a great way to form new life skills and fend for yourself, as a bit of practice for what may come in September.

4. It is super fun!
Your days will be packed full of exciting activities every day, where you can have a go at new things or experience new things, you do not want to miss out!

5. Asking questions
It is a perfect time to ask staff members and student ambassadors working on the shift, any questions you might have around university, whether this be around a specific topic or general personal experiences they may have experienced. Take full advantage of the people and resources around you, this is your time, get the most from it!
