Leeds clearing

I’m really wanting to get into uni of Leeds to study English lit this year through clearing. My current firm and insurance choices are for a different subject and different unis. Im predicted AAB but I think im probably going to end up with ABC ngl. Do you think if i applied for priority clearing w/ Leeds in July they would accept me for English lit if I end up getting ABC? This is all provided that they offer it in clearing this year of course.

Hi anon,

Thanks for reaching out - its great to hear you're being super-organised in thinking about what you might want to do. I think what you've said would be a good idea. When clearing opens in July, then take a look at Leeds to see if their English Lit course is in clearing, then you may be able to register your interest. Most people however wait until they get their results in mid-August. On results day, you can phone up Leeds and (if the course is in clearing and you meet their requirements) receive a verbal offer from them, at which point you can release yourself into clearing/ask your F and I to make you unsuccessful and make your application from there, adding Leeds as a clearing choice.

Your other option of course, if you don't manage to get into Leeds this year, is to reapply to them afresh in the main cycle next year. Not only will this give you the chance to apply for their accommodation earlier, it will also give you the chance to take a year out, which is never a waste of time. You can earn a bit of money, volunteer, travel, and have a bit of headspace to think about what you might like to do in future.

I hope this helps, best of luck!

If you are taking A levels you will have to wait until you have your results in August.

What happens on Results Day - please read this first - The Student Room

Last year Leeds included Eng Lit in the list of courses with clearing places - BBB were the A level entry grades required. Eng Lit & Creative Writing was also included in this list also with BBB grades required. There is no guarantee that there will be clearing places available for these courses in 2025 but as already advised check out the univ website and see you if you can register your interest before exam results day. If phoning Leeds on results day be prepared for a bit of a wait - its clearing courses attract a lot of interest
