OCR A level chemistry phonetic spelling question

My spelling is not great,

today I did a chem paper 2, I spelt separating funnel as seperating funnel in a 4 mark question on explaining how to purify an organic liquid. TO me they sound exactly the same but as it's a scientific word I suppose im concerned about if id lose a mark for it. Considering grade boundaries for that A star are so high I could really do without dropping marks on this.

Any help would be great

Okay, so in general, a small misspelling such as "seperating" will not cost you points on a chemistry essay. If the reader can still tell what you meant, it is fine. Graders want to see if you get the chemistry right and if you can explain it properly. As long as the misspelling does not make the word unclear, they usually do not care.

Hi i do OCR chemistry, it would still apply, as long as the word looks similar they don’t care. Unless it comes to naming compounds which is when they do actually care about spelling just because some of the names are similar. 😊

Hi amazing thank you for the reply, I thought it would be alright and would have been fuming if I lost the mark. How did you find the paper this morning?

Sorry about the slow reply, I'm in the middle of practicing my biology essays. I really liked the paper other than the question asking about the difference between beta and alpha keto acids which I wasn't too sure on. Ended up rambling on for a while. Im glad you liked it.

It’s alright, tbh i need to practice my essays and revise some more bio content. That keto question threw me off as well, also the one where you had to give the structure from L,K,M i put an aldehyde and ketone but i didn’t realise until after it just said H2SO4 and no Cr2O7
