Hello, we hope you are all having a peaceful break! Here are some practical tips to make the process as easy and efficient as possible.
• Understand that although many universities will talk to your representatives, whether that is a parent or a sibling, we often need to hear from you as the student first. As an adult entering into a contract to study a specific course at a particular university, we require your consent to discuss all the clearing information and make an offer with your representative, rather than directly with you.
• Have your UCAS Personal ID number ready. This helps speed up the process and is the quickest and easiest way of finding your UCAS record which universities have access to and need in order to make you an offer. If you have not applied through clearing we will most likely ask for your first and last name and postcode.
• Have your A Level grades ready, feel free to also calculate the UCAS points as well as this can also speed up the process. This is not essential; if you have not done so it is likely that the clearing call handler will calculate the UCAS tariff points for you.
• Have your GCSE grades ready. Many universities ask for your GCSE grades, especially for English Language and Mathematics. Universities also sometimes ask for the grades of at least 4 others as well. Therefore, have all your grades ready as this can really help us help you.
• Don't worry. Some of the best students get to university through clearing so do not see it as a sign of failure if you don't get any offers, you do not get into your firm or insurance universities or you just want to go to another university. These are all valid reasons to use clearing. Last year, when I was working in the clearing call centre as a student ambassador, I had an A*A*A* student call me enquiring about a clearing place because they no longer wanted to go to their first choice university.
I hope this helps and makes the process as easy and stress-free as possible. If you have any questions or anything at all please do let us know!
